AC Milan are keen on signing Manchester United‘s Leny Yoro as part of their plan to rebuild their defence next year.
Manchester United reportedly invested €62m to sign the centre-back from Lille in 2024.
Erik ten Hag was the manager when the Red Devils signed him, but he didn’t feature under his orders. An injury during that pre-season delayed his debut for the Premier League side.
The English club parted ways with Ten Hag in October 2024 and appointed Ruben Amorim as his successor a month later. Yoro made his Manchester United debut in December of that year.
Yoro yet to cement place at Manchester United
The 20-year-old has so far played 4,398 minutes from 74 matches and 53 were under Ruben Amorim. In January, the Old Trafford club parted ways with the coach and replaced him with Michael Carrick.
This season, Carrick has utilised the France international both as a centre-back and right-back, playing 515 minutes from eight matches. At the weekend, his error led to AFC Bournemouth’s second goal in the 3-0 league defeat.
In the summer, Milan appointed Amorim as their new manager, and Calciomercato states he’s looking to improve his defence. Matteo Gabbia will be out for long while Mario Gila recently joined him in the Rossoneri’s treatment room.
The Serie A side would prioritise signing a defender in the winter market. Bayern Munich’s Kim Min-jae and Sporting’s Gonçalo Inácio remain on their January target list.
Milan’s plan for Manchester United player
Jorge Mendes is trying to place US Lecce’s Tiago Gabriel at the Italian club. However, their manager isn’t keen on signing his compatriot.
While the San Siro club will try to improve their defence in the winter market, they have identified Leny Yoro as the target for next summer.
Milan, as per the report, are ‘particularly interested’ in signing the 20-year-old after this season. He’s also represented by Mendes, and Ruben Amorim’s side are looking for the super-agent’s assistance to finalise the operation.
The Rossoneri’s intention is to close the transfer for around €40-50m. He has a contract until 2029, and Transfermarkt value him at €45m.
Yoro enjoyed regular minutes under Amorim at Manchester United. The coach may have to play a key role in helping Milan sign him next summer.
