River Plate have no immediate concerns about youngster Ian Subiabre, despite Liverpool reportedly joining the race for him.
That’s according to El Intransigente, who say the Argentine side have no concerns about interest from Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal or Manchester City.
A report in England recently stated that Liverpool had joined the race for the 17-year-old ‘gem’. He’s been shining for River Plate and stood out for Argentina at the U-20 World Cup in Chile.
His performances have caught the attention of major clubs in Europe. Liverpool are the latest to show an interest, joining a list that includes Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Atletico Madrid and Juventus.
River Plate, though, have ‘taken precautions’. The youngster already ‘digitally signed’ a new deal a few weeks ago. That saw him extend until December 2028. The contract also includes a €100m release clause.
Thus, River’s board feel they are well protected. President Jorge Brito used the contract to ensure the ‘continued presence’ of a player who is considered one of the club’s most promising.
They are maintain a confidence stance publically, insisting that ‘there’s no immediate concern’ when it comes to the player.
“The contract renewal was key to protecting both the player and the club, but European interest continues,” said a source close to the club. Those close to the player are also emphasising that Subiabre is focused on developing and nothing more.
River Plate do accept that interest from ‘clubs of Liverpool’s magnitude’ could ‘change the landscape at any moment’. It’s the same for Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City or any other big European side.
But for now, they’re not concerned, even if Liverpool have added themselves to a growing list of suitors.
