Celtic want to bring a goalkeeper to Celtic Park this summer, after Kasper Schmeichel announced his retirement and Martin O’Neill’s side have identified a few targets.
On May 14th, we relayed news that Celtic and Wolverhampton Wanderers are keen on Wolfsberger AC goalkeeper Nikolas Polster.
Earlier this week, Sport Witness covered claims from Germany that O’Niell’s side are in the battle for Hertha BSC’s Tjark Ernst. Celtic or any other club can sign him by activating his €5m clause.
The Scottish champions also have UD Las Palmas goalkeeper Dinko Horkaš on their list.
Celtic in talks for Horkaš
Recent claims from elsewhere have stated Olympiacos and several other clubs are in the picture to sign Dinko Horkaš.
Friday’s edition of La Provincia, a newspaper local to the Spanish club, has a report only on Martin O’Neill’s side. Their title says ‘Celtic are in talks with UD Las Palmas’ to sign the 27-year-old.
In their ongoing efforts to find Kasper Schmeichel’s successor, Celtic are looking at the Croatian.
On Monday, Las Palmas president Miguel Ángel Ramírez expressed his disappointment that several clubs have negotiated with the player without contacting the club. That isn’t the case with Celtic as they are in talks with the Segunda División side.
Horkaš has a €30m release clause while Las Palmas initially set a €10m price.
The newspaper states: ‘Even so, we have to wait and see how things develop, and the summer is long, but the Scottish club seems to have taken the step to finalise the deal.’
La Provincia further add Martin O’Neill’s side are hoping to complete the operation for around €7m.
Celtic leading race
Journalist George Tsarouchas took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to cover an update on Celtic.
He makes no mention of any other club and claims Martin O’Neill’s side are the favourites. Tsarouchas adds ‘Celtic’s offer is close to €4m’, indicating they have submitted a bid.
Dinko Horkaš, for his part, is looking for a new adventure this summer. This should please Celtic, who now have to find an agreement with both the player and UD Las Palmas.
