Celtic star Camilo Durán has been labelled the “New Falcao”, and excitement is growing in Colombia about the transfer, and his future in the national team.
Sport cover the 24-year-old today and how he is the ‘sensation of the Scottish league’. Néstor Lorenzo and the national team now have him firmly on their radar.
The newspaper explains that Colombia has historically been a breeding ground for natural born goalscorers. Names like Jackson Martínez, Carlos Bacca, Luis Muriel, and, the biggest of them all, Radamel Falcao García have all worn the country’s number 9 down the years.
Number 9 up for grabs
At the moment there is no current permanent owner, with it rotating between Jhon Córdoba, Cucho Hernández, and Luis Suárez.
Now there is another name ‘poised to make a strong bid’ for a spot in the squad and challenge the established stars. Celtic’s Camilo Durán.
He’s currently enjoying a dream start to life in Scottish football after signing from FK Qarabağ. That’s resulted in him being named Celtic’s best player for August. Sport say that’s recognition of his ‘rapid adaptation’ at one of the country’s biggest clubs.
He’s very much adapted quickly, and his strong performance could open the door to the Colombian national team.
International chance
He’s now on the squad’s radar ahead of the upcoming international break. Journalist Pipe Sierra goes one step further and reports that Colombia have already decided to call him up.
Sport say that the Celtic star has made no secret of the fact that playing for his nation is one of his major goals.
“As everyone knows, my dream is to win many titles,” the newspaper quotes him saying.
“And also, to make the Colombia national team – that is the dream. I know that if I keep working the way I am, I’ll be there soon.”
Now that dream could be just around the corner, with Colombia well aware of how well he’s doing already and the hype building.
