Liverpool and Nottingham Forest may have to wait a while if they still have hopes of signing Gabriel Menegon.

The 16-year-old goalkeeper, who had recently attracted enquiries from Premier League clubs, as we previously covered, has now signed a new deal with Grêmio.

According to local outlet Itatiaia Esporte, Grêmio acted quickly after receiving interest from England and Brazil. They’ve inserted a release clause worth around £4.2m (R$30m) for the domestic market.

The story claims there were no concrete offers so far, but confirmed the enquiries from England.

As confirmed by the Porto Alegre side on Tuesday night, Menegon’s contract has been extended until September 2028. That secures the future of one of their most promising academy products.

The teenager, who stands at 1.96m, is a regular starter for Grêmio’s U17 side and for Brazil’s U17 national team.

Menegon has been part of the club since 2022 and continues to impress with his physical presence and technical maturity.

The new deal highlights Grêmio’s strategy of holding on to young assets and strengthening their pathway from academy to first team. This has already produced several notable names in recent years.
