Liverpool and Nottingham Forest interest in Gabriel Menegon has prompted Grêmio to act quickly on the youngster’s future.
According to local outlet Itatiaia, the Porto Alegre side have already moved towards renewing the goalkeeper’s contract for another five seasons.
The 16-year-old has been a regular starter for both Grêmio’s U17s and his age-group Brazil national team. Standing at 1.96m, he is regarded as one of the standout names of the club’s new generation of goalkeepers.
It is said that Menegon’s extension is close to being finalised, with only financial details left to be settled. The story also revealed that no official offers arrived from the Premier League despite recent enquiries. Grêmio preferred to anticipate any further movement by securing his long-term deal.
The Brazilian club have seen significant revenue from academy products in recent years – more than £40m (R$260m) since 2023, and protecting Menegon is seen as part of their strategy to maintain that pipeline.
The next step is for the teenager to formally sign his new deal, which is expected to be completed soon. That won’t kill a transfer to Liverpool, Nottingham Forest or elsewhere, but it will protect Grêmio a little more.
