Chelsea have not given up on their interest in Roma midfielder Manu Kone after making a €60m offer in the summer transfer window.
Journalist Niccolo Ceccarini reports that Chelsea intend to make another offer for the 25-year-old midfielder in the January transfer window.
The journalist explains on Tuttomercatoweb that Roma intend to fend off interest from major clubs regarding the midfielder.
Chelsea’s €60m bid
They already withstood a late push from Chelsea – including a €60m offer from Chelsea – during the final hours of the transfer window. However, the Blues have no intention of giving up.
They instead plan to try again when the market opens. That is perhaps because the market for the Frenchman is growing. Liverpool have also made enquiries and could potentially make a more determined move in the coming months.
The midfielder could be a potential replacement for Alexis MacAllister. The Argentine recently shared his displeasure at the club’s failure to offer him a new contract.
Chelsea need a midfielder
Chelsea’s need for a midfielder is already evident. They had hoped to sign Lamine Camara in the summer and were pushing for a deal on deadline day.
But that ended up collapsing as Monaco shut the door late on, believing they were selling Folarin Balogun to Everton. Instead, the striker walked away from the Toffees, and it was too late to revive the Camara deal.
Reports have indicated that the Blues are looking at the free agent market – with Georginio Wijnaldum suggested – but they may be willing to wait until January. if they are, it appears that Kone is now at the top of the wish list.
Whether they can convince Roma into a sale remains to be seen. The Italian club appear determined to resist any offers that may come their way, as they did in the summer transfer window. Chelsea will be making efforts either way, perhaps alongside Liverpool.
