Tottenham‘s Destiny Udogie was linked with an exit from the club in the summer. There are suggestions of interest for a January transfer.
Since Roberto De Zerbi’s arrival, the left-back has been an important player for the London side. While he’s rotated with Andy Robertson this season, he’s still played five times in all competitions.
In the summer, AS Roma’s interest in the defender was widely known. They were optimistic about a deal but Tottenham never opened up to Udogie’s exit. Their demands were high, and Roma then backed out of a deal.
There is a growing belief in Italy that things can change in January.
Player value has fallen
TuttoJuve report that Udogie’s situation is being ‘closely monitored’ by Juventus, who want a very Italian squad next season. They see the full-back as one of the most interesting profiles that can elevate the level of the team.
Juve feel Tottenham don’t see Udogie as a regular starter. They want to take advantage of this, amidst belief the player could be available for €15m in January.
This is mainly because the Italian’s book value is currently between €7m and €9m. While Tottenham are expected to remain strong in their position, the Bianconeri are optimistic their stance will dither soon.
Juve indeed need a left-back, with Juan Cabal out of the project. Andrea Cambiaso is their only out-and-out option in that position, which makes signing a left-back quite important in January.
Our take: Spurs unlikely to accept figure
The figures being spoken of appear to be based on accounting considerations only. Serie A clubs have an obsession with capital gains and therefore the assumption is offering a profit, when a fee is largely amortised, can do the trick.
Tottenham will not make it easy to let the 23-year-old leave. For someone who has won silverware in England and has Premier League experience, a €15m figure is too low.
If Tottenham do decide to sell the left-back, English clubs can easily afford a larger fee. For now, it is difficult to see Udogie departing anytime soon.
