Crystal Palace stepped forward for Cher Ndour in the summer but Liverpool could try to oust the Eagles in the race.

The Italian has had a very impressive last few months for Fiorentina and for his country. He was key in La Viola’s survival in Serie A, which helped him earn a call-up to the Azzurri over the summer.

The 22-year-old has already done well this season too. But his career highlight came this week when he was playing for the Italy U21s, as Ndour scored from over 70 yards.

This led to Sport Witness covering Crystal Palace’s summer offer for the midfielder. This was rejected by Fiorentina, who saw Ndour as unsellable.

More background is now emerging and it concerns Liverpool.

Player’s reputation growing

Today’s La Repubblica takes a closer look at Ndour’s rise, praising his incredible goal with the U21s.

The newspaper’s Florence edition further clarifies that he was the only unsellable player in the summer. Fabio Paratici’s words mirrored his stance, which led to Fiorentina considering the sale of key player Nicolo Fagioli.

La Viola are growing fearful of Liverpool’s interest. They believe if Ndour keeps growing, the Reds can step forward, especially as Juventus are already trying to beat competition.

Fiorentina need an ‘unstoppable offer’ to consider a sale. This would be for a fee in the region of €35m, with his value risen since Crystal Palace came calling.

More consistency needed

There is no doubt Ndour has impressed but this is Fiorentina’s way of creating an auction for their player. This is also the best time for it, as his value is growing and an auction will take it higher.

However, the Italian is genuinely someone Liverpool and Crystal Palace should keep an eye on. He feels like a very good fit for Premier League football because of his physicality and ability to cover ground.

The next step for him should be to become more consistent across a longer run. It will go a long way in helping him prove himself to suitors.
