Aston Villa and Everton are interested in Jonathan Rowe, with links being most prominent a few weeks ago. They have been mentioned as suitors again.
Earlier this summer, Sport Witness covered the Toffees’ initial approach for the winger. Bologna quickly rejected this, having a much higher valuation, despite their failure to qualify for Europe. This came after Aston Villa’s interest in him didn’t lead to a formal offer.
In recent days, Atalanta have been attempting to sign Rowe. No agreement has been reached over a deal but the possibility has been increasing.
The Bergamo club have been warned about possible approaches from Aston Villa and Everton.
One club could be negotiating deal
Today’s Corriere dello Sport covers the Englishman’s future in detail, noting that he won’t feature against Atalanta on Monday. Manager Domenico Tedesco clarified that the player hasn’t looked happy and that is why he has been excluded from the squad.
The newspaper note this could be because of several reasons – one being that Bologna are speaking to an English club for his sale. This has possibly added more uncertainty to his situation and has unsettled the player.
The report further notes that Aston Villa and Everton are still in the picture for his signing. Atalanta are yet to reach an agreement to sign him, which can provide an opening for other suitors.
It is clear that Rowe feels his time is up in Bologna, which is explained by his absence.
Bologna pushing auction
The Rossoblu have sold some of their best players to England. They are a club that thrives on these major sales and Rowe himself was a replacement for Dan Ndoye.
That is exactly why they could be using Aston Villa and Everton to create an auction for the 23-year-old.
They signed him for around €20m in 2025. He caught fire in the second half of the season and they are clearly looking to capitalise when the time is right.
