Liverpool have received encouragement to launch a fresh attempt to sign Brighton & Hove Albion‘s Yankuba Minteh in January as the winger is closing in on returning from an injury.

The Gambia international had suffered an injury during the pre-season with Brighton in August.

Towards the end of that month, Liverpool made multiple attempts to sign the winger but didn’t meet the Seagulls’ demand.

Andoni Iraola’s side saw their Premier League rivals rejecting multiple offers. Their last bid was around £60m, only for The Amex club to raise the price to £70m.

The Reds didn’t meet their demand, while Brighton further increased it to £80m in the last week of the window.

Why Liverpool didn’t sign Brighton star in summer

Journalist Foday Manneh regularly covered the saga in August. Last month, he told Sport Witness that Liverpool refused to meet Brighton’s demand because of Yankuba Minteh’s injury.

He said: “Liverpool found that not very reasonable. They informed Brighton it’s too much and they can’t reach £80m, especially since he’s injured.”

Ahead of the January window, the Reds have received encouragement to try again for the Brighton & Hove Albion star.

Agency 1v1 Skills Football Management, who represents the 22-year-old, confirmed he’s close to regaining full fitness. On their official Instagram page, they posted pictures of the attacker returning to training.

The caption read: ‘Our star boy, Yankuba Minteh! Working hard to get back to full fitness after a long injury spell. We’re happy and excited to see you back in training. We can’t wait to see you back on the pitch doing what you do best.’

Liverpool’s new attempt not ruled out

Foday Manneh told Sport Witness that the Merseyside club could make a new attempt in the winter market.

“The only thing that is there is the possibility of Liverpool coming back for him in January. It’s still not ruled out,” Manneh explained.

The journalist now took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to cover the Gambian’s return. He again points out about Fabian Hürzeler’s side rejecting two bids from Liverpool.

Yankuba Minteh’s immediate focus is to return to the pitch to help the Seagulls. This could convince Liverpool or a new suitor to make an attempt to sign him next year.

His contract lasts until 2029, and the price may depend upon his performances before the next window opens.
