Manchester United and Juventus were credited with interest in Sporting’s Morten Hjulmand last summer.

On September 4th, Sporting president Frederico Varandas said the midfielder could have earned more elsewhere but decided to stay.

Recent claims in the UK have reported Manchester United could make an approach in the winter market. Ruben Amorim has managed him at Sporting, and that’s encouraging it all.

Tipsbladet have contacta journalist Gianluca Di Marzio for an update on the 26-year-old’s future.

They also point out that A Bola have stated Manchester United will make an attempt to sign him in January. However, that isn’t what the Portuguese newspaper reported.

On Thursday, A Bola stated Sporting have no plans to let the 26-year-old leave in January even for €80m, his current clause. Manchester United or another club have to wait until next summer. That didn’t stop Tipsbladet from contacting Di Marzio to discuss the Denmark international.

The journalist, while discussing Juventus’ failed summer attempt, mentioned the Red Devils. He reports a potential move to Manchester United depends on Amorim’s future.

“In relation to United, it is about whether Amorim is fired or not. Amorim loves him and Juventus is also interested in him. This summer, Juventus could not spend €50-60m on his position because they needed strikers,” he said.

The journalist adds the Serie A club could return for him next summer.

To sum it up, Manchester United’s interest was reported in the UK and relayed in Portugal. Tipsbladet have specifically asked Di Marzio to comment further, but there’s no leap forward.
