Kamaldeen Sulemana left Southampton to join Atalanta in the summer, with mixed expectations attached.
He reunited with ex-Saints manager Ivan Juric, who had clearly been impressed.
In Serie A so far, the Ghana international already has two goals and an assist. He’s established himself as a regular in the Croatian’s attack.
The 23-year-old has now spoken to Gazzetta dello Sport.
He was inevitably asked about Juric and his exit from Southampton in the summer. The attacker had big praise for the Bergamo club’s manager.
“He’s the perfect coach for me, tactically and technically. He gave me his trust right away when I arrived at Southampton.”
He described himself as Juric’s student.
“He’s a mentor to me; he helps me find the right position on the pitch, both offensively and defensively. He’s the mentor, and I’m the student: I trust him and I always want to do better.”
When asked about the transfer to Atalanta, Sulemana expressed gratitude.
“I’m grateful for having had this opportunity, for having been chosen by them. And that’s also why I want to do even more to help the team reach the highest possible level.”
The article points out that Sulemana comes across as someone who is ‘quick with words’. It shows that he is a confident individual, and is enjoying himself in Italy.
His highest individual season since leaving Denmark saw him score four times at Rennes, and he’s on track to surpass that at Atalanta.
