Tottenham Hotspur have been mentioned as a suitor for Piero Ausilio and there’s work going on to get him to the Premier League club.
Disagreements between the Italian and Inter Milan led to his departure two weeks ago. This leaves Ausilio free to chose a new club, with Sport Witness having previously covered how Tottenham have made contact for him in the past.
Spurs have shown signs of having limited sporting direction, failing to score a single goal after spending a huge amount. It signals the need for someone who can manage from to bottom.
Contacts underway to finalise deal
The print edition of TuttoSport gioves a lot of background to the 54-year-old’s situation, as Ausilio is currently enjoying time days off and recharging his batteries.
There has been interest from Al-Hilal but he currently prefers a move to England. The newspaper note that Daniel Levy wanted to sign him in the past but a move never worked out. Roberto De Zerbi has been keen on having an Italian sporting director and he is key to a move for Ausilio.
An agent close to the Tottenham manager is working to finalise an agreement for the director. Parties are in ‘constant contact’ to close the deal, with progress being made.
Ausilio has dealt with Spurs in recent months too. He was key in taking Djed Spence to Inter and has a very close relationship with De Zerbi too.
Our take: Spurs need Ausilio
More than winning silverware, Ausilio’s biggest achievement at Inter is giving them a stable identity. This makes them a club that competes constantly and it allows them to do well in Europe too.
That is something Tottenham need in the longer term. They have a manager who plays a specific brand of football and they now need to make the signings that make sense.
The summer deals made only partial sense. Ausilio will make them a more responsible club and potentially take Spurs to new heights.
