Looks like Tottenham have made an approach for Piero Ausilio as they look to bring the departing Inter Milan sporting director to North London.
Ausilio’s exit from Inter is already well established in Italy. The new development for Spurs comes from Alfredo Pedullà, who says Tottenham are among the clubs to have contacted him about his next job.
Tottenham make their move for Ausilio
Pedullà explains that Ausilio is currently considering two proposals, with Tottenham specifically named as one of his options. The journalist says Ausilio has received “some proposals, including Tottenham’s”.
There is no detail yet about exactly what Spurs have put on the table. However, their interest appears concrete enough for Ausilio to consider Tottenham as he decides where to go next.
That decision should come soon. Pedullà says his future will definitely be “far away from Inter”.
Marco Conterio also reports that Ausilio’s departure from the Serie A club could be completed in the coming hours.
Inter are already preparing for life without him. Giuseppe Marotta has chosen to promote Dario Baccin in his place, according to Conterio.
Why Ausilio is leaving Inter
Ausilio’s departure comes after an extraordinary 28 years at Inter, so this is obviously a major change for both sides.
Pedullà makes an interesting point about the reasons behind it. His exit isn’t about his contract situation or Inter deciding to go in another direction. Leaving is Ausilio’s choice.
The sporting director has received approaches from elsewhere and now appears ready for something different after almost three decades in Milan.
That is where Tottenham come in. Spurs are offering him the possibility of starting a completely new chapter in the Premier League.
De Zerbi connection could help Tottenham
There is also an obvious link already waiting for Ausilio in London. Roberto De Zerbi has a good relationship with the Inter director. Both Pedullà and Conterio pointed out that this connection previously played a part when the manager was considered for the Nerazzurri job.
Things could now work the other way around. De Zerbi is already at Tottenham, and Spurs are trying to convince Ausilio to join him there.
After 28 years at the same club, moving abroad would be a big step for the Italian director. Having someone he already knows well running the team certainly wouldn’t hurt Tottenham’s chances.
