Manchester United‘s Altay Bayındır is going through a tough phase at Celta Vigo since joining them on loan in August.
The goalkeeper has struggled for a prominent role since joining Manchester United from Fenerbahçe in 2023. He was André Onana’s backup for the first two seasons and started six league matches last season.
Bayındır wasn’t able to convince Ruben Amorim, who promoted Senne Lammens as the new No.1 in October 2025. The Belgian has been the Red Devils’ first-choice stopper since then.
Backup role for Manchester United player
The Turkey international was behind Senne Lammens and hasn’t featured for Manchester United since the Belgian’s debut.
In the summer, Manchester United signed Karl Darlow as a free agent and let Altay Bayındır go out on loan to the La Liga side.
In August, Celta Vigo sporting director Marco Garcés confirmed the loan fee, which will reduce depending on the goalkeeper’s number of appearances.
He said: “If there is a loan payment, it is reduced according to everything he plays. We have a purchase option and, on top of that, United cover part of his wages.”

Loan move disaster for Manchester United man
The 28-year-old’s hope of playing or at least competing for a place at Celta Vigo’s starting lineup has clearly faded.
The Spanish club have three wins after 14 matches, and two were in the league. They have conceded 10 goals after 11 La Liga matches.
Manager Claudio Giráldez has started Ionuț Radu in every fixture this season, forcing Altay Bayındır to accept a place on the bench.
Bayındır has played 17 matches for the Red Devils, and his last outing was against Brentford in September 2025. He hasn’t made a club appearance since then.
Tuesday’s edition of La Voz de Galicia looks at the stopper’s ordeal at the Spanish club.
The plan was for the Red Devils man to start in the Europa League. This was to give the Romanian rest and avoid paying the fine to Manchester United, as part of the loan agreement. However, Celta have changed their plan following Radu’s impressive form.
Bayındır would have started the Copa del Rey clash, but that fixture was postponed until November 13th.
With Radu’s good performances, Bayındır is unlikely to get ahead in the league and the Europa League, unless the former were to suffer a setback. As things stand, Celta will end up paying the fine to Michael Carrick’s side.
