Sevilla ‘rubbed their hands’ when Tottenham came calling for Bryan Gil this summer as it would allow them to escape a difficult financial situation.
That’s according to ABC Sevilla, who say the deal allowed them to be ‘more relaxed’ in a ‘very complex transfer market’ for the club.
Gil joined Tottenham in a £22.5m deal back in July, with Spurs making their interest known and wrapping up a deal in speedy fashion.
The move saw Erik Lamela moving the other way as part of the deal, something that’s worked out well for both clubs so far.
While that was the first major bonus, it seems the arrival of Lamela has also worked out pretty well too.
The newspaper says his ‘quick adaptation’ and ‘good performance’ have already surprised the most optimistic at the club.
In just six games, he’s already convinced a large part of the Sevilla fans and has managed three goals and one assist thus far.
He only managed four goals and one assist in 35 games for Tottenham last year, an indication that he needed the ‘change of scenery’ and is finding the feeling of importance he needed in Sevilla.
Nobody is getting over-excited given they experienced a similar thing with Samir Nasri, and he ended up being a flop, but the early signs are encouraging, adding even more value to a deal that Sevilla were already very happy with.
