Arsenal transfer ‘leaves a bitter taste in the mouth’ of selling club – Gunners ‘waited for most favourable moment’

One of the late deals pulled off by a Premier League club on transfer deadline day was that of Takehiro Tomiyasu to Arsenal.

The Gunners, in need of a right-back, turned their attention to the former Tottenham target to bolster their squad, and convinced Bologna to sell their star at the last minute for a fee of around €23m, bonuses included.

According to Il Resto di Carlino, relayed by TuttoBolognaWeb, however, the transfer ‘leaves a bitter taste in the mouth’ of the Serie A side, as Arsenal ‘waited for the most favourable moment to sink the blow’ and present ‘an offer the club could not afford to refuse’.

While it’s welcome money for the Italians, ‘the problem for Sinisa Mihajlovic’ is that ‘no one has arrived in the role of right-back’ to replace Tomiyasu.

That means the Bologna manager will have to make do with what he has until January at the earliest, with the gap left by Tomiyasu filled by Lorenzo De Silvestri and Ibrahima Mbaye.
