Dreaming of playing for Arsenal at some point in his career, KRC Genk’s Paul Onuachu might have to wait for that to happen.
That’s because the Gunners don’t appear to be interested in him, but two other Premier League clubs are, and they’re willing to pay the big bucks for the striker.
Scoring 35 goals in all competitions for the Belgian side, the Nigeria international has attracted the attention of both West Ham United and Brighton & Hove Albion.
The Hammers have been on the lookout for a striker ever since David Moyes allowed Sébastien Haller to return to the Eredivisie at Ajax Amsterdam, but have yet to find the right man for the job.
As for Brighton, their near constant relying on Neal Maupay didn’t really work last season, so Graham Potter made it his mission to bolster his attack this summer.
Going back to Onuachu, OwnGoalNigeria are claiming as an exclusive that the striker has ‘narrowed down his options’ to West Ham and Brighton, and ‘will seal a dream move to a team in the Premier League before the end of the summer transfer window’.
They state ‘both teams have been told by Genk that it will cost £26m’ to sign the Nigerian, although both sides are ‘hopeful of negotiating down’ thanks to bonuses.
Those around Onuachu are said to have told the two sides their client wants the Premier League as a ‘priority’, but he ‘will consider other leagues if the move fails’.
So far, however, ‘there is no sign of a breakdown in talks’, and OwnGoalNigeria believe it’s a ‘straight battle’ between West Ham, ‘who believe they are in pole’, and Brighton, who have ‘long admired’ the goalscorer.
