Sport reckon Manchester United have been the ‘most insistent’ club when it comes to signing Samuel Umtiti from Barcelona, but even their interest has now diluted.

The Catalan newspaper reports the defender wants to remain with Barcelona. He feels he now has a genuine chance of edging Clement Lenglet aside in the starting eleven, and is happy in the club’s squad.

On top of that he’s content with living in Barcelona and has no plans to throw it all away.

Sport also say Manchester United have been the ‘most interested’, yet have become less so because of the player’s stance.

In reality, interest from Old Trafford is very questionable. Given Umtiti’s struggle with injuries, his high wages, and that he’s not been a regular over the past year, there’s a big question mark.

Barcelona have valued their player at €50m, and nobody has been prepared to match it.

Should Manchester United sign a central defender this summer, and it’s a long way from sure that they will, then a 27 year old with a sketchy injury history, big wages and a €50m price tag doesn’t appear to be the most appealing prospect.

Sport are likely using the Premier League club to hype Umtiti’s desire to stay.
