There’s often a Manolo Gabbiadini transfer story in the Italian sport media, but this time it’s slightly different.

Calciomercato once again report Italian interest in the Southampton player. Since he swapped Napoli for Southampton due to a lack of games, there’s been an assumption in Italy that it would just be a short stay and the striker would quickly return to Serie A.

That hasn’t happened, and come the January window he’ll have been with the Saints for two years.

Former clubs Bologna and Sampdoria have both keen on taking the player back, but Calciomercato say Southampton are putting their foot down and refusing a move in the winter market.

Mark Hughes feels the striker can be a part of his squad between now and the end of the season, and gave him a chance in the last Premier League match against Watford.

Gabbiadini repaid that opportunity, a rare start, with a point winning goal. He was arguably the best player on the pitch.

A move now would be considered ‘very difficult’ and therefore unlikely.
