It’s now been a few months since Rui Patrício rescinded his contract with Sporting, but he continues to be involved in some controversies at his former club.

And as the now Wolves player doesn’t give many interviews, the best way to respond to some accusations is to post something on social media.

As he often does it in Portuguese, it’s worth adding some context to the Instagram story the goalkeeper posted on Monday afternoon.

It started with the debate for Sporting’s presidential elections. As reported by Record, candidate José Maria Ricciardi accused the other candidate, Frederico Varandas, of locking himself in his room during the attacks at Alcochete, and then showing up laughing.

“Who was there told me, one of them Rui Patrício. Then he (Varandas) took pictures of Bas Dost’s head,” Ricciardi said.

Varandas defended himself saying his room ‘didn’t even have lockers’.

So Patrício, who doesn’t want to get involved in the elections, has posted this text today exempting himself from the story.

“I did not give any kind of statements about the events in Alcochete to any of the candidates for the presidency of Sporting Clube de Portugal, so I am to clarify and regret the lie that was said in my name, according to the debate held yesterday between two candidates for the presidency of SCP on Sporting TV.”

The Lisbon problems have followed poor Rui to Wolves.
