Wolverhampton Wanderers have a pretty good reason to be more confident about their upcoming Europa League clashes against Braga.
That’s because in their five league games, the Portuguese side have won just the first of them, and now stand in 16h place in a league which has only 18 clubs.
Portuguese outlet Sapo brings a story today saying this is Braga’s worst start in the league since 1993. Since then, the only time they had such a bad run was in 1999.
This is why manager Ricardo Sá Pinto is under pressure. Club president Antonio Salvador, who took charge in 2003, has never had such a bad start, and is normally not very patient with managers who go through a poor run.
Sapo says that what is saving the manager’s job for now is his chance to get qualification in Europa League against Wolves’ ‘Portuguese army’. Braga have gone through two qualification rounds already, having faced Brondby and Spartak Moscow.
Wolves themselves are suffering a poor start to the season, but they can bring some optimism on Thursday, and potentially push Sá Pinto closer to the exit door.
