French magazine France Football features a small interview with Everton attacker Richarlison in today’s issue.

When we see quotes from the Toffees star, we know he’s probably being asked about his difficult childhood in Brazil and his way to becoming a professional footballer.

It wasn’t any different this time, and it turns out France Football published more of a monologue about his ‘rough childhood’ in the city of Nova Venécia, in the state of Espírito Santo.

“As a kid, in Brazil, it was difficult for my family, my brothers and my sisters. But we knew how to help each other and find work to help at home. It was a rough childhood, but it also allowed us to learn. You become mature faster, and this experience brings values.

“We did it with the help of my family and friends. I will always thank them. I didn’t have a choice, so I had to do odd jobs very early. I sold sweets, ice cream, vegetables on the street. It’s a good learning curve, especially at 10 years old. I was happy to be able to help, even at that age. But at the same time, I was absolutely focused on football. It was my life, my passion, and I think that’s still the biggest part of my learning and building.”

Everton start to the season has been full of ups and downs, yet Richarlison has been managing to make a good contribution to the team, scoring three goals and contributing one assist in six games so far.

If the Brazilian keeps this minute-per-goal ratio, that will be enough to overcome his first season for the club, which he finished with 14 goals in 38 matches.

Still just 22 years of age, Richarlison is a young player who’s gone through a lot in his life, but keeps showing there’s much more to come.
