Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Gonçalo Guedes is ‘very close’ to moving back to Benfica, according to reports from Portugal.

Outlet Mais Futebol today writes that the talks between clubs had ‘positive progress’ in the last few days, and the parties expect the deal to be done by the start of the next week.

Guedes is expected to join Benfica on a new loan from Wolves, and could be with the Eagles’ squad as soon as the deal is done.

The Portuguese media had always been confident that the Eagles would have the player again, even though he was also linked to a move to Spain in the last few weeks.

Guedes was loaned to Benfica in January, but due to knee injuries, he wasn’t able to play a lot for the Eagles.

The winger is currently recovering from a surgery, and that never harmed the Lisbon side’s interest in having him back for another season.

Wolves’ hope is probably that he does well enough at Benfica to get a permanent transfer next year. His contract with the Molineux side runs until 2027.
