Earlier on Friday, we covered reports from Brazil which said Flamengo wanted Wolverhampton Wanderers to raise their bid for João Gomes.

Despite accepting Wolves’ initial €17m offer for the midfielder, the deal was undone once Lyon put €18m on the table.

However, with the player preferring the move to England, it was claimed the Rio de Janeiro side now expected the Molineux club to increase their numbers.

That, though, is not happening, at least according to journalist Venê Casagrande, as a new report from him say Wolverhampton ‘do not intend’ to raise their bid.

It’s claimed that Wolves understand they shouldn’t do that after the positive response from Flamengo.

So even though they really want the signing done, the €17m offer stands, and the ‘impasse continues’.

Meanwhile, in the French media, it’s claimed there’s been a change in the situation.

Outlet Foot Mercato writes that the Brazilian club told Wolverhampton that in case they don’t outbid Lyon, then the player is moving to the Ligue 1 side.

It’s claimed that even though João Gomes gave Wolves his word, he’ll be ‘pushed’ towards Lyon by his entourage in case the Premier League club don’t raise their offer.

Now it remains to be seen how the Molineux side will react to that.
