We could spend all day covering Joao Cancelo updates from the Italian media, it’s never ending.

Wolves interest has been reported widely, but some of the claims didn’t feel right. For example, when it was widely reported that Wolves had offered €40m for the player, Valencia’s well informed local media didn’t cover it independently.

Then came the endless reports that Cancelo had turned down Wolves because he wants to wait for Juventus. That’s fair enough, even Wolves fans could understand, but the player himself made it clear that scenario just hasn’t happened.

Earlier today we covered comments the player gave to Tuttosport, in which the fullback said: “At the moment I cannot exclude anything, certainly playing the Champions is my goal, I won it (qualification) on the pitch with Inter and I would like to return to this competition.”

“Until I have an official and concrete proposal I cannot say anything. So far, nothing has come to me. Before the end of the season I heard that Inter wanted to buy me outright and that they were in contact with Valencia to do it, but then nothing happened.”

Now Italy’s TMW say Wolves are the club ‘pressing most’ to sign Cancelo, and that Juventus are yet to make an official offer.

Jorge Mendes trying to build a transfer to Wolves would be no surprise, but it would also make sense if Wolves are being used to put pressure on other interested clubs.
