It’s no secret that Wolverhampton Wanderers, through their manager Julen Lopetegui, want to sign two players from Atlético Madrid.

Those are Matheus Cunha and Felipe, a striker and a centre-back, whom the Spanish manager believes will help Wolves get out of their rut.

Bottom of the Premier League at the World Cup break, the Molineux club have a lot of work to do going forward, and the hope is those two acquisitions would go a long way to helping turn the situation around.

Marca in Spain look at where everything stands on Monday, starting with the goalscorer, pointing out he ‘already has his departure for Wolverhampton on track’.

His inability to find the back of the net in the first half of the season and his omission from the Brazil squad for the World Cup have seemingly ended up ‘convincing the striker of the advisability of a change of scenery’.

As for Felipe, his lack of minutes have led him to ‘ask for an exit that has not found the slightest opposition’ with the La Liga club, as Wolves stand by ‘interested in his services’.

Despite his renewal last season, a departure is expected, and all that’s holding it up is ‘the lack of understanding regarding the compensation to be received’.

There’s still three weeks left before the start of the January transfer window, meaning time isn’t of the essence just yet, but it’s a situation Wolves will want to resolve sooner rather than later, then giving them a chance to focus on other targets.
