Despite a belief that Jason Denayer was on his way to Wolverhampton Wanderers, the latest update from Belgium suggests the deal is being put on hold for now because of an interest in a Leicester City player.

The defender has been a free agent all summer after his Lyon contract came to an end, and while there were expectations he would quickly find himself a new club, that hasn’t been the case.

Wolves were the latest to come forward with an offer, and it appeared all was going well, but journalist Sacha Tavolieri is now claiming there’s a slight hiccup.

He took to Twitter to explain that ‘while there are only a few points left to settle’ when it comes to Denayer moving to Molineux, the Premier League side’s top brass having put the brakes on it.

Tavolieri adds ‘the Wolves board are giving the impression of wanting to temporise by favouring a priority file’, with that being Leicester City’s Çağlar Söyüncü.

The Turkish defender has been out of Brendan Rodgers’ Premier League plans to date, only fielding him in the EFL Cup in a penalty win over Stockport back on August 23rd.

Therefore, he’s a player Leicester could be open to selling at the right price, even if they are also set to lose Wesley Fofana to Chelsea in the process.

As for Wolves, they would be getting a player with more Premier League experience than Denayer, who despite being at Manchester City for five years, never made an appearance for them, only featuring in England’s top-tier during a loan at Sunderland, during which he played 24 times.
