“Woe to letting a player who is worth it go away” – Club urged to sign Chelsea player, ‘no matter’ the cost

At San Siro, the name Ariedo Braida is one that is incredibly well know.

The Milan CEO between 1986 and 2002, followed by an 11 year stint as their director of football, the now 74-year-old is a man who is listened to over in Lombardy.

That’s why Gazzetta dello Sport turned to him to ask him some questions about his former side, during which he brought up Chelsea’s Fikayo Tomori.

The centre-back is currently on loan at Milan for the remainder of the season, swapping Stamford Bridge for Serie A in search of game time, and he’s impressed so far.

With five appearances under his belt already, the 23-year-old has shown already why Paolo Maldini wanted him, and the €25m or so option to make the move permanent could very well end up being a bargain.

That is, in essence, what Braida said: “I also like Tomori very much. No matter how much his redemption from Chelsea costs: he must be evaluated well in the coming months. [Silvano] Ramaccioni said it well: ‘You can make a mistake in a purchase, but woe to letting a player who is worth it go away’.”

To us, that sounds very much like he’s urging Milan to seriously consider making the loan a permanent move at the end of the season, which certainly doesn’t sound like the worst idea.

After all, Chelsea, with the option, made it clear they were happy to let Tomori go at the right price, so there should be few complaints from their end.
