Newcastle United will continue to be linked with near-enough every big name who may become available on the transfer market, and that’s been the case recently with Thomas Muller.

Towards the end of the January window, there were surprise claims that Newcastle and Everton were making attempts for the Bayern Munich player.

Both a move to St James’ Park and Goodison Park seemed very unlikely, even in the next summer window. There was a chance that Newcastle could be a more attractive option than Frank Lampard’s side, given the Magpies simply have more money than Everton.

However, Bild editor Walter M Straten has dismissed the chances of Eddie Howe’s side. In an article for the German newspaper, he says the north east club have made contact to ask about the potential signing.

Straten then states: ‘The nouveau riche Saudi club Newcastle has already asked about Muller. But I am sure: he will never go to Newcastle. His name is Thomas Muller – and not Max Kruse!’

The dig at Max Kruse is in relation to the veteran striker having looked for big contracts towards the end of his career, rather than moving for purely sporting reasons.

Newcastle United probably won’t be concerned, Muller was unlikely to be a big part of their future.
