Burnley’s Zeki Amdouni is currently on loan at Burnley and has been impressing during his time in Portugal.
The Swiss star has six goals in Liga Portugal and has made 11 appearances in the Champions League.
He’s settled in well and Benfica manager Bruno Lage spoke to the press after their 3-0 win over Gil Vicente yesterday. He was specifically asked about Amdouni and Lage praised how the 24-year-old has adapted since his arrival from Burnley.
He said, via ABola: “Zeki [Amdouni] is an example of what I was saying a few months ago: it’s not easy to come from a team like Burnley , where you play once a week and don’t have to win every game, and come to Benfica , where you always have to perform well as a team and as an individual.”
Speaking further, Lage also praised his performances after Amdouni’s initial period of adapting to playing in Portugal.
“There’s always a period of adaptation, and we’ve had to be patient with him and with everyone else. Coming in, arriving and performing well is sometimes not easy. He’s done that and we’re very pleased with him.”
The Switzerland international impressing for the Portuguese side isn’t a major surprise, considering how he had managed to stand out for Burnley in the Premier League last season.
He scored five goals and his talent was clear to see. Perhaps, the Clarets’ decision to loan him out is proving to be the right move.
