West Ham United defender Angelo Ogbonna has again been linked with a move back to Italy, following claims Sampdoria are showing an interest. Last month there were reports Bologna are also interested in the Italy international.

TMW have claimed Sampdoria could be in the market for a new central defender if Slovakian youngster Milan Škriniar leaves the club this summer. The 21-year-old has been linked with a move to Inter Milan, and Sampdoria could replace him with West Ham’s Ogbonna.

With the World Cup next year Ogbonna could entertain a move back to Serie A to secure his spot in the Italy squad. However, West Ham would surely need to bring in a replacement first if they were to allow Ogbonna to join Sampdoria.

Signed by West Ham manager Slaven Bilic from Juventus, the former Torino defender has made over 50 appearances for the club since his arrival in England. However, like many West Ham players, he came in for flak for some poor performances last season.

Ogbonna missed the final stages of the season due to injury.
