Despite claims from Brazil today saying West Ham had not contacted Corinthians for the transfer of Yuri Alberto, it seems a bid was actually made, and was turned down.

Gazeta Esportiva writes that the Hammers offered €18m for the transfer, and that wasn’t enough for a deal.

It’s said that Corinthians rejected the offer still in the ‘initial stage’ of the conversations with West Ham.

The club’s board reportedly believes the player’s value could go up soon, and his loss would be deeply felt at the Brazilian side.

On the player’s side, it’s claimed that his staff saw the move with ‘good eyes’, but there would be no pressure for him to force his way out.

There’s something that makes this deal a little more complicated, which is that Corinthians hold 50% of the player’s rights, with the other half belonging to Zenit.

It’s said West Ham offered €18m, but would have only kept 60% of any future transfer fee. That means 20% of a future sale would go to Corinthians, and the other 20% to Zenit.

Gazeta Esportiva claims Corinthians have no intention of selling and would only agree a deal if a huge offer arrives. With a few days until the end of the transfer window, it’s said a new attempt from the Hammers is ‘not ruled out’.
