West Ham United have identified VfB Stuttgart’s Konstantinos Mavropanos as a target after ending interest in Manchester United’s Harry Maguire.

On Wednesday, Kicker reported the Hammers are in talks with the Bundesliga side and the player over a potential deal.

Bild state West Ham have made progress in their pursuit of bringing the former Arsenal man back to London.

The report adds the Greece international has also already agreed a deal with the Premier League side.

It’s claimed David Moyes’ side are ‘currently preparing an offer’ to sign the defender. If they meet the German club’s request of €20m, then ‘nothing stands in the way’ of the 25-year-old saying goodbye to his current employer.

This may happen soon as the player is ‘about to say goodbye’ to Stuttgart and Bild don’t rule out the deal being completed before this weekend.

The centre-back received interest from Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan but the Serie A trio couldn’t table a convincing offer.

That won’t be a problem for the Hammers but Bild say the disadvantage is that they won’t be playing in the European competition. They base this on West Ham finishing 14th last season.

That isn’t the case, though, as they appear to have completely forgotten that West Ham have qualified for the Europa League after winning the Europa Conference League last season.
