Eventually picked by Tata Martino to represent Mexico at the upcoming World Cup, Raúl Jiménez hasn’t played football since the end of August.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers striker has been nursing a groin issue for quite some time, and there was a lot of doubt as to whether he would recover in time.

He’s still not at his best, but that hasn’t stopped his manager from calling him up, as the player joined his compatriots in Girona last week to prepare for the international tournament.

The Wolves forward did, however, return to London over the weekend to ‘receive the last dose of injections’ to help his recovery.

He then returned to Girona, with Medio Tiempo stating he was ‘showing signs that his recovery is going well and that he could be in Qatar without any problem’.

The Wolves star is unlikely to start the first few games of the competition, and should he make an appearance, it would be later on in the tournament.

That being said, Medio Tiempo do point out that ‘the only way for Raúl Jiménez not to go to the World Cup’ would be if the goalscorer were to ‘tell Tata Martino that he doesn’t feel fit and that it would be better to give his place to another footballer’.

While a possibility, it seems highly unlikely, since it’s clear the player has been chomping at the bit to go to Qatar over the past few weeks.

So far this season, Jiménez has scored one goal in four appearances for Wolverhampton Wanderers, as he found the back of the net in a 2-1 win over Preston in the EFL Cup.
