The best thing about the end of the transfer window is to read about the complex agreements that some clubs have managed in order to get their deals tied up.

Gerard Deulofeu’s loan from Barcelona to Watford seemed like a simple six-month spell, but news from Catalonia today shows there were quite a few interesting details included in the contract.

The report was originally made by radio show ‘Club de la Mitjanit’, and covered by Sport. They claim that, initially, Watford will have to pay a €1m fee for the deal.

But that’s not all.

According to the outlet, that fee will only be paid in case Watford finish in 10th place or above that. Otherwise the loan will be for free.

And in case Deulofeu impresses in England and is later sold by Barcelona for over €20m in the next summer, then the €1m amount returns to the Premier League side, also making the loan a free deal in the end.

So little by little, the Hornets have apparently managed to get a great deal with this transfer. The idea is that Deulofeu either helps the team or they won’t spend a penny for having signed him.
