While some in England claimed that Wesley Hoed would be signing for Watford from Anderlecht last week, that never happened.

The 28-year-old is currently still contracted to the Belgian side, but that is about to change, and he will be heading to the Hornets.

That’s according to Voetbal International, who claim Watford are saving the player and the Jupiler Pro League side ‘from each other’, after he was pushed to one side in November.

They explain the player has been ‘looking for a new challenge’, and he has found this at Vicarage Road, ‘where a contract of 2.5 years is ready for him’.

For Watford, this is the opportunity to sign a Premier League experienced player, as the Dutch defender spent some time at Southampton in the past after he moved to St Mary’s from Lazio.

He ended up making 45 appearances in all competitions for the Saints over the four years he was there (even if he did get loaned out along the way), and moved to Anderlecht in 2021 on a free transfer.

It’s not mentioned how much Watford would be paying for him, as Hoedt is technically contracted to his side until 2025, but considering his situation, they might be simply willing to cut their losses at this point.
