Watford have held ‘first contacts’ with Cagliari over a deal for midfielder Nahitan Nandez this summer.

That’s according to Sky Sports Italy, who say the two clubs have held talks about a transfer, and the Italian side will meet with his agent to discuss it.

They explain that Nandez had been attracting interest from Monza, but Watford are also now ‘interested’ in the Uruguayan.

The parties involved in the potential deal have all held ‘initial contacts’, and a meeting is now scheduled with his agent, which they see as a further development in proceedings.

At this moment, Watford are yet to enter serious negotiations or make a bid, but the meeting with the agent is proof that can change.

Nandez has regularly been linked with a move to England in recent years, but a disappointing season for Cagliari last season, which he managed just 21 league appearances, and his club were relegated to Serie B, has seen his stock fall.

That means there is no longer Premier League interest like there once was, something Watford, who are planning for another year in the Championship, could look to take advantage of.
