On Friday morning, we’ve covered Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf claiming it could be a decisive day in Manchester United’s pursuit for Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez.
It was said the Eredivisie giants would have a ‘crucial decision’ to make, since it’s time to say whether they’ll accept the Red Devils’ €50m offer or not.
The newspaper even mentioned the ‘calm before the storm’, predicting this could be a very important day for the future of the Argentine centre-back.
However, in a new update from De Telegraaf, this time in a video from journalist Mike Verweij, it’s made clear that Ajax will continue playing hard in the talks with Manchester United, despite how difficult it will be to keep the player.
“Now amounts are being offered, which means that top consultations are taking place in the Johan Cruijff Arena. What should you do if they offer fifty million euros for a player of yours?”
And despite talking about the club’s intransigence, he also pointed out that Martinez himself may end up having a say on the situation, and that could help the Red Devils achieve the transfer.
“But at some point a player also has something to say. He was once signed for seven million euros, can earn five or six times more at Manchester United, so at some point it will become untenable. He wants to go there and that has nothing to do with Ajax.”
The Dutch journalist remains confident that the move is happening, as long as Manchester United work to please Ajax with the upcoming offers this summer.
“Eventually he will leave, I think. I would like to say that Ajax is currently saying that a departure is not negotiable. Also for this price. Manchester United will have to go up even further.”
