Watford boss Walter Mazzarri has been speaking to the Italian media outlet Radio Anch’io Lo Sport (via Calciomercato.it), after his club’s win against Manchester United.
Mazzarri insists Watford’s win over Manchester United gives them continuity, and explained how he set out his team in the match.
He said: “We are very happy because it is a result that gives us continuity. We lost a few points, but this victory gives conviction and increases self-esteem.
“I tried to prepare my team for multiple formation, even at 4-3-3 to 3-5-2 and beyond. Yesterday in attack, we were 4, and we became 5 when we defended. A somewhat ‘custom formation’ that I also used in Italy.”
Asked about his victory over old foe Jose Mourinho, Mazzarri said that he is happy with the team’s win, and not about personal battles.
He added: “With the experience I have, I don’t look at these things any longer. I’m happy because they’re a great team. I told my players that if we play on par with these super teams, we can do great things.
“They said the Watford haven’t beaten Manchester United for 30 years, but these are things that make the fans happy. I look at other things.”
Watford travel to Burnley this weekend in the Premier League, and Mazzarri will certainly be hoping his team continue their good form.
