Arriving from Torino on loan, Josef Martínez is a lucky man, as he’ll get to play for a brand new team, as Atlanta United prepare for their first season in the MLS.
However, for Martínez, this period in the MLS is a stepping stone for him, with the ambition of moving somewhere else later on his career, with the Premier League, and Tottenham, potentially in his agenda.
Speaking to Liderendeportes, the forward said: “The desire is intact. I’m just 23 years old. Atlanta is closely linked to Tottenham and other European teams, who are buying young players with big plans for them.”
Set to be managed by former Barcelona manager Tata Martino, it’s fair to say Martínez is excited about the coming season.
He will also be able to speak to Anton Walkes, Atlanta’s English midfielder, currently on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, about life in England and London.
Of course, a lot needs to happen before a transfer to the Premier League, but with Spurs undoubtedly planning on keeping tabs on their loanee, if Martínez impresses Mauricio Pochettino, who knows what might happen?
