Former Watford manager Javi Gracia has hailed his time as ‘unforgettable’, insisting he and his children still support the Hornets from afar.

Gracia spent 18 months in charge of Watford between January 2018 and September 2019, first leading them to 14th and complete safety after Marco Silva’s sacking.

He improved on that the following year, leading the Hornets to 11th in the table and the final of the FA Cup for just the second time in the club’s history and first time in 35 years.

They were beaten 6-0 by Manchester City in that final, but he signed a long-term contract that summer despite that, enjoying a strong relationship with fans and ownership alike.

However, that soon turned sour as a run of games without a win at the beginning of the 2019/20 season saw him sacked with the Hornet sitting bottom of the table with just one point to their name.

Despite his sacking, he’s regularly spoken of his time at Watford fondly, insisting he holds no grudges against them and does not look back at his time there with any regrets.

That’s a feeling he has now reiterated, even revealing that he and his three children are big fans of his former club.

“That was very special,” he told Marca.

“Now I watch a lot of Premiership games, and my three sons wear the shirt and cheer for Watford. These are life experiences which are part of our life.

“The Watford experience, being there for three seasons, in an unstable dugout? To be there as long as we were, it’s something unforgettable, to experience the Premiership, Vicarage Road, playing against those teams… Unforgettable.”
