Everyday, it appears we are edging closer to an agreement between Chelsea and Inter for the return of Romelu Lukaku to Italy.

The striker has made it very clear he isn’t happy at Stamford Bridge, and his sole desire was to go back to a club he deserted just a year ago.

Despite the manner in which he orchestrated his exit, the club appear happy to bring him back from Chelsea, knowing full well what he is capable of when happy in his environment, but they won’t break the bank for him.

That has been the reason why the negotiations have dragged on, but we are now in the final stretch.

This is what Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting on Monday, explaining  that Chelsea have ‘set the the price’ they want to part ways with their striker on loan, and that’s €10m.

None of this is new, but it’s not a done deal yet, ‘because the executives have been instructed’ by the club’s president, Steven Zhang, ‘to negotiate again’ to try and reduce the price.

That doesn’t mean this will fall through, because ‘this deal is convenient for all parties involved and there is no other possible solution in view other than that of Lukaku’s return to Milan’.

However, as said above, Inter don’t want that to happen at any price, and ‘the two sides spoke to each other’ on Sunday; a meeting during which ‘the Blues tried to strike up a negotiation by connecting Lukaku’s names to that of a possible counterpart’.

Having first tried for Denzel Dumfries, the latest name was Alessandro Bastoni, for which Thomas Tuchel ‘tried to test the waters’, but Inter’s response ‘was firm’, which is when Chelsea started to think about prices and went for €10m.

Still, the Serie A side are trying to save a few pennies by trying to get an agreement at a fee lower than €10m for Lukaku, and we’ll have to wait and see how accommodating the Blues end up being, but it’s clear no other players will be involved in this, lead of all the Italian centre-back.
