Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel has refused to confirm that the club are close to signing Eric Dier from Tottenham, after being stung by Joao Palhinha in the summer transfer window.

Christian Falk covers comments from the Bayern boss today, with him reported to have said “We know from experience that that doesn’t mean anything. But we’re trying to sign him,” when confirming Dier was in Munich for a medical.

The player has been pictured arriving at Bayern to undergo a medical ahead of his move from Tottenham, which has picked up pace now they’re on course to sign Radu Dragusin.

Dier has been heavily linked with a move away from Spurs for months after barely featuring for Ange Postecoglou in the first half of this season.

Bayern have moved to sign him this week, securing a low-cost package with Tottenham to get Tuchel the defensive addition he’s been chasing for months.

It seems he isn’t getting ahead of himself, though, after what happened with Palhinha over the summer.

Bayern thought they had signed the Portuguese star from Fulham on deadline day of the summer window, with the player flying to Munich, undergoing a medical and even posing for the customary announcement photos.

However, the deal was cancelled at the last minute as Fulham refused to sell following their failure to secure a replacement on the final day of the window.

That left Palhinha in tears, Thomas Tuchel and Bayern disappointed and apparently taught the German coach to hold his horses when it comes to speaking about Dier’s impending move from Tottenham.
