At the start of this week, reports from the English press came up with claims saying Benfica star Darwin Nunez has turned out to be an option for Tottenham Hotspur in the next transfer window.
It was reported that in case Spurs lose Harry Kane this summer, then they should go for the Uruguay international to replace him.
Now as Portuguese newspaper O Jogo covers the claims, they come up with interesting updates about the 22-year-old’s situation.
The first is about the price. Pointing out that Darwin is currently protected by a release clause worth €150m, it’s said Benfica demand €80m to let him go this summer.
From that amount, the Eagles must pass 20% of the profit to his former club Almeria, to whom they paid €24m to sign the striker a couple of years ago.
Then regarding the agent who will handle Darwin’s transfer, there are interesting claims. It’s well known that Jorge Mendes has been trying to work with the player, especially because the contract between the striker and his current representative Edgardo Lasalvia is expiring this summer.
So according to O Jogo, the Uruguayan official is travelling to Europe this weekend to work on a few issues. One of them is a potential partnership with the Portuguese agent.
Lasalvia should be in a hurry to get a sale done, as besides still having a contract to represent Darwin, he also has a document from Benfica which gives him the right to 10% of their profit if selling the player before the end of June. So he has a good reason to get a transfer done soon, and Tottenham and other interested clubs should certainly be aware of that.
