Nottingham Forest star Chris Wood has insisted that his performances this season are down to his teammates getting the best out of him, and nothing else.
Wood has been speaking to L’Equipe, who have a big profile on the Nottingham Forest striker today as he continues to shine in the Premier League.
The 33-year-old has been the undisputed surprise package of the season, with 18 goals and three assists in 27 games in the Premier League so far.
That puts him third in the Premier League goalscoring charts at this moment in time, just a goal behind Alexander Isak, two behind Erling Haaland and seven behind runaway leader Mohamed Salah who sits on 25.
He does, though, have the best conversion rate of that top four with 37% putting him on top and his goals per minute of 0.74 is also the best of that top four also.
It’s been a continuation of a late career revival at Nottingham Forest for Wood, who managed 14 goals and one assist in 31 games last season.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s appointment has been key to the turnaround, but Wood also wants credit to be given to his Nottingham Forest teammates.
“It’s about connecting with teammates,” he said.
“I try to understand the strengths of Anthony (Elanga), Callum (Hudson-Odoi), Morgan (Gibbs-White), to get the best out of them and they get the best out of me.
“I know where Anthony is going to go, what he’s going to do with the ball, so I put myself where he’s going to cross. We communicate a lot; we work on the ways each of us prefers to move. Over time, it’s become quite natural for me to express myself a lot on the pitch.”
