The next few weeks are set to be decisive for West Ham United’s efforts to sign Angel Gomes from Lille, with the French side yet to convince him to stay.

That’s according to Foot Sur 7 and Pierrot Le Foot, who both cover West Ham’s continued efforts to sign the midfielder today and a reaction to reports in England on the matter.

Foot Sur 7 report that the Lille’s leaders have not yet reached an agreement with Gomes over an extension to his contract, which expires this summer.

Reports are now coming form England stating that he has started talks with West Ham about a move in the summer. The Hammers, though, are not the only side attracted to him as Manchester United have also been credited with an interest.

That’s leading to fears at Lille, who know they are in a delicate position and potentially set to miss out on a major transfer fee.

The tone is similar from Pierrot Le Foot, who report that West Ham and several other Premier League sides see the midfielder as a player capable of bringing ‘creativity’ and a certain versatility to their teams.

Lille are more than aware of the growing interest in him and know they face ‘a great difficulty’ in convincing the midfielder to sign a new contract.

The next few weeks are seen as decisive on that front, with West Ham at the forefront but several others eyeing up a free transfer and fear growing that he will make a return to England on a free.
