Manchester City thought of hijacking the transfer of Pedro Porro to Tottenham Hotspur, the Portuguese media says.

That’s today reported by newspaper Record, who features a few stories with some interesting information of what happened in the final days of the transfer window and hadn’t been told yet.

It’s claimed that after Manchester City agreed João Cancelo’s transfer to Bayern Munich, they made a ‘last hour approach’ to sign Porro from Sporting.

Record says the Spaniard already ‘had already committed’ with Tottenham by then, and ‘didn’t even hesitate’ when faced with this new offer.

He ‘wanted to keep his word’ and turned down any chances of rejoining Pep Guardiola’s side.

Pedro Porro belonged to Manchester City between 2019 and 2022, and part of their agreement with Sporting included a buy-back option worth €23m.

That’s why he was the obvious target in case the club wanted to desperately sign a fullback on the final day of the transfer window.

Record also add that letting him go back to Manchester City would be the ‘worst scenario’ for Sporting, who ended up making way more money when agreeing the player’s sale to Tottenham for €47.5m.
