Mathys Tel’s impending new deal at Bayern Munich will have come as bad news to Tottenham and Manchester United, who were both ‘specifically interested’ in a move for him in the summer.

That’s according to BILD, who say Tel has now agreed to a new deal with the German champions, ending any hopes the Premier League duo had of signing him.

The newspaper explains that final discussions over a new contract took place today at Säbener Straße, with the player’s agent Gadiri Camara photographed meeting heading into the entrance of the offices.

The signature on the new deal came after that, with Bayern delighted to have tied down the Frenchman after fears they could lose him in the summer.

Tel and his representatives had met with Bayern at the end of February, when the player made it clear he was thinking about departing as he was unhappy with his current situation under Thomas Tuchel.

Clubs such as Tottenham and Manchester United were ‘specifically interested’ in a move for him but the recent announcement of Thomas Tuchel’s departure in the summer has led to a ‘big turnaround’ on the matter.

Tel is now happy to stay where he is, with new sports boss Max Eberl convincing him of the club’s plans and the moves they would be making post Tuchel.

That’s led to him agreeing to a new deal and ending any possibility of a move to Tottenham, Manchester United or any of the other suitors.

Now, how seriously either of those clubs were in the mix is up for debate as it wouldn’t be a Bayern Munich contract renewal without at least one Premier League side said to have missed out.

This time it appears to have been Tottenham and Manchester United, who BILD say were eyeing a move but have now seen any hope completely dashed.
